How to Land Your Dream SAP Consultant Job in Australia: A Step-by-Step Success Story

Osiris achieved his goal through the AVANZA, program, recognizing that his potential and experience made him worthy of a professional position in Australia.

At the beginning of his journey, he realized that although he was an experienced professional, experience alone was not enough to land the SAP job he was aiming for.

Technical roles like the one Osiris was pursuing require a specialized strategy, continuous support, and a great deal of determination.

How did we make it happen? The Avanza Plan provided him with the key tools to reach his goal. Discover his success story below:

1. How long have you been living in Australia?

The image shows a man wearing sunglasses, a blue shirt, red shorts, and blue sandals standing in a vast desert landscape. The background features sand dunes and a golden sunset with scattered clouds.

As a complement to my studies, I also studied at TAFE (Technical and Further Education) for nearly two years to start the migration process.

2. What is your professional experience in your home country?

I have over five years of experience as an Industrial Engineer and SAP Consultant, specializing in the PP (Production) and QM (Quality) modules.

I implemented these modules in four companies in Colombia, mainly from the Blueprint phase to the Go Live stage, which is when the system goes live and starts being used.

3. Did you have professional experience in Australia when you started your job search?

No — I had applied for jobs professionally, but my resume wasn’t well-tailored to the SAP roles I was targeting. It was more focused on industrial engineering and too generic.

It didn’t meet Australian standards, and my cover letter wasn’t very effective either.

4. What services did you take with Ale Munoz, and how did they help you find professional work in Australia?

I took the AVANZA service, which gave me a more effective strategy for my job search, leading to more interviews and initial contacts from companies.

At first, I was contacted by various companies, including international ones, but I couldn’t finalize any offers due to travel restrictions during the pandemic.

The position I was targeting was SAP consultant — something very specific — and when the pandemic hit Australia, SAP opportunities dropped significantly.

However, I decided to prepare myself by organizing my CV and cover letter for when things improved. In July 2020, I signed up for the AVANZA service and began studying SAP online to update my skills.

I completed my SAP refresher studies in PP and QM, and by mid-2021, I successfully joined an Australian company as an SAP consultant.

5. Did you implement any strategy and step out of your comfort zone?

Yes, I was motivated to validate my SAP knowledge directly through courses offered by the German company itself. Since then, I’ve received messages from people all over the world interested in my profile.

You update your skills through a platform called SAP Learning Hub, where you can purchase a subscription ranging from $2,700 to $6,000, depending on what you want to study.

“I started to get calls once I sought guidance and applied all the knowledge I had acquired

6. How long after starting our services did you begin receiving calls from companies and recruiters?

Almost a month after starting, I began receiving calls, and by the fourth month, I had my first in-person interviews. The results became clear once I sought advice and implemented the strategies.

7. How was your first interview in Australia? What do you think is the key to a successful interview?

The key is preparation and keeping your technical knowledge up to date.

A company contacted me through LinkedIn, and the in-person interview went very well. However, since my updates weren’t fully completed yet, the company chose another candidate.

I learned a lot from that experience. You must focus on the positives of each rejection and keep a plan of action.

I’ve realized that jobs are out there, and it’s just a matter of pushing yourself to get where you want to be. In my case, finishing my certifications and remaining persistent in my job search.

The image shows a man sitting on a natural rock formation with a large hole in the middle. He is wearing a wide-brimmed hat, a patterned short-sleeve shirt, shorts, and sandals. The background features a vast, arid landscape under a bright blue sky.

8. What was the most difficult part of looking for professional work in Australia?

Lack of Australian experience.

It’s simple: companies looking for very specific technical knowledge, like in my case, feel more confident hiring someone who can show that they’ve already applied or gained those skills in Australia.

However, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

The hardest part is getting that first opportunity, which in my case had ups and downs due to things I could control — like keeping my SAP knowledge updated.

I’ve had the opportunity to share my knowledge with the Ale Munoz – Professionals Without Borders community, which has also helped me add more experience to my resume by training others in Australia.

You have to be resourceful and find ways to turn weaknesses into strengths.

9. Did you discover anything about yourself or the Australian recruitment process during this journey?

Honestly, everything — from resume design, cover letter, to interview prep tools.

My first technical interview in Australia showed me that the global SAP certification would give me a big advantage in the hiring process.

That’s why I studied to obtain the international SAP PP and QM certification — because Australian companies value that accreditation more than a Master’s degree, at least in my case.

10. How long did your professional job search take after starting the service with Ale Munoz?

It took about seven months from when I started the process with Ale Munoz, since I was searching for a very specific SAP role.

By July 2021, I achieved my goal. I stayed focused and made it happen. This year, I also received my Australian citizenship. Without a doubt, I planted many seeds in this country that are now bearing fruit.

Australia is a land of opportunity for those of us who are ready to harvest after the hard work.

The important thing is to keep nurturing that ground and not let the seed die before it can grow.

The image shows a man standing on a metal observation platform with a vast, arid landscape in the background. He is wearing a short-sleeved, pink button-up shirt with a zebra pattern, gray shorts, a belt, and a wristwatch. Sunglasses hang from his shirt, and the sky above him is bright blue with scattered clouds.

11. What are 3 things you would tell other professionals to encourage them to start their job search in Australia?

Patience, conceptual preparation on how the job market works, and above all, update your knowledge — especially if it’s very technical.

12. Lastly, would you recommend our recruitment services?

Absolutely. Thanks to Ale Munoz’s services and guidance, I was able to land interviews and shorten the path. I recommend it 100%.
